Intermediate Short-Term Pottery Courses, 6-Week A & B Pathways
£360

  • For students who have completed a beginner course or have prior experience, we offer two focused intermediate pathways.

  • These courses are designed to remove common technical barriers and expand material understanding.

This course focuses on form control and functional techniques that commonly block students at the intermediate stage.

You will learn how to throw taller forms, narrow necks, and functional lidded vessels through step-by-step methods, rather than repeated guessing.

B

This course focuses on working at larger scale and with different materials, while introducing surface techniques in a controlled and practical way.

You will learn how to handle larger forms, understand crackle effects, apply slip decoration, and throw porcelain with guidance on risks and limitations.

What Is Included in Our Pottery Courses?

• All clay, tools and studio equipment
• Professional kilns and glazing materials
• Firing of up to 5 pieces for beginners
• Up to 4 pieces for intermediate courses
• Structured technical instruction
• Supportive studio environment

Additional pieces can be glazed and fired at £5 to £15 per item.
Optional drop-in practice sessions are available at £10 per hour.

How the Two Intermediate Courses Work Together

Intermediate A: Focuses on strengthening your technical control and structural confidence. You learn how to throw with greater precision, manage proportion, and build functional forms that work reliably.

Intermediate B: Expands your creative and material understanding. You explore scale, surface techniques, decorative methods, and more complex materials such as porcelain, developing a broader and more expressive approach to your work.

Taken together, these two pathways provide a well-rounded intermediate foundation. You gain both the structural discipline and the creative flexibility needed to progress confidently into advanced study or independent studio practice.

Do I need experience for the beginner 6-week course?

No. The beginner pathway is suitable for complete newcomers.

Building Real Pottery Skills, Not Just Trying It Once

At Blanc Ceramic, our short-term pottery courses are designed to help you develop genuine ceramic skills through structured learning and steady progression. Rather than offering a one-off experience, our programmes focus on building a strong technical foundation that students can continue developing over time.

Each session builds on the previous one, allowing you to refine your wheel throwing technique, understand the behaviour of clay, and develop confidence in shaping functional forms. By the end of the course, students not only complete finished ceramic pieces but also gain a deeper understanding of the craft.

Many of our students continue their journey beyond the initial course, progressing to intermediate pathways, advanced programmes, or independent studio practice. This progression-focused approach helps transform a first introduction to pottery into a long-term creative skill.
